I am a huge Labyrinth fan so when I saw this cute looking book being published, I immediately pre-ordered it.Plot:The story is divided into three parts where different characters have adventures and meet up with other characters. I think my favorite was Ludo's though they were all cute.Setting:I adore the Labyrinth and the setting looks just like the movie in illustrated form.Characters:I pretty much love all of the characters from Labyrinth and they were pretty true to form in this book. The highlight was seeing the worm featured in two of the stories because he's my favorite. The junk woman is also in one of them which was awesome because I've always had a soft spot for her.Relationships:There really isn't enough story for any new relationships to really make an impact but I did like how major characters (Ludo, Sir Didymus, Hoggle) interacted with some of the classic but lesser focus characters.Writing/Voice:The writing fit the characters and story.Illustrations:The illustrations are stunning. My dad, who has never seen Labyrinth, actually saw the book and said it reminded him of The Dark Crystal, which he has seen. He seemed pretty interested just by looking at the art.Ending:The ending is kinda sad but adorable at the same time. It fit the characters and story well.Overall, loved it. Labyrinth fans will adore it and I could see kids being enchanted as well. Would be a great way to introduce little ones to the world of the Labyrinth!

Unfortunately if you’re looking for a book of ‘tales’ from the Labyrinth as the title suggests, this book isn’t it. This picture book contains three short stories, Sir Didymus’ Grand Day, Wisdom & Idioms, and Stone Cold.Sir Didymus’ Grand Day is just a journal entry from Sir Didymus in which he meets up with other Labyrinth characters through the day. Nothing really happens. Wisdom & Idioms was my favorite of the stories, but it’s still too simple and not much of a “tale”. The ‘wise’ man and his bird-hat are just sitting around cracking jokes about Sir Didymus and Ambrosia chasing a Fiery’s head. Stone Cold is poor Ludo going to all the Labyrinth characters trying to get rid of his cold.As with most Labyrinth books I’ve read, the art is beautiful and whimsical. If for anything you can get the book for the art.The way the stories are told, if you haven’t watched the movie you probably won’t enjoy this book (other than the art). There just isn’t enough information for someone not familiar with The Labyrinth to understand these short stories. It wasn’t at all what I was hoping for, but still has some pretty pictures.

The main reason for this purchase was nostalgia. Like probably almost every person that bought this book, Labyrinth is one of my favorite movies of all time and when I heard of all the books coming out to celebrate its thirtieth anniversary, I knew I had to scoop up each one. With that being said, the book itself was simple and cute. I expected more in length but for the price, it's okay. It's a collectors item and something I plan to share with my niece and other little ones. It could have been better but being Labyrinth trumps all.

I bought this book for my best friend for her Christmas, and was SO excited when I ordered it, thinking that it would be a great accompaniament to her favorite movie, but it was definitely not what I expected. The pictures were gorgeous, but I wouldn't buy it for the story content...because there really wasn't a story. A few words per page that would work a lot better with a child than for an adult who wanted an item for nostalgia. I didn't particularly care for it, especially for $14, but I'm sure she'll be thrilled with it. Most likely, it's just going to be a conversation piece on a coffee table.

I bought this book for my sister for her birthday and was SO excited when I ordered it, but it was definitely not what I expected. Yes, the pictures were lush and inviting but I wouldn't buy it for the story content...because there really wasn't a story. I am slightly disappointed that they called this Labyrinth "Tales". It was more like a 20 word short story for children. However, as a novelty item, it was worth the money.

illustrations are lovely however the title is misleading as there are no complete talesand format is geared towards very young children...wish I had known prior to purchaseas I feel I have helped fill someones' pocket who is just taking advantage ofrather than honoring a wonderfully crafted movie. Just saying...this is not somethingI would knowingly support.

Love the labyrinth story. These stories are cute. But the writing is very small and hard to read, and the overall color is a bit dark, could have been more vibrant. Still glad I got it, but probably would not have if I saw it in the library first.

I pre-ordered this little gem and I wasn't disappointed. The artwork is wonderful, the stories are right in line with the silly/dark/emotional sides of The Labyrinth. I'd love to see more!

A well written and organized overview of ephemera related to golden age of Hollywood, but not comprehensive. All photos are in color, except for items from actual magazine or paper clippings. Each chapter is devoted to one star and gives a brief biography of the person and then describes items pictured. The biggest chapters are devoted to the Dionne quintuplets and Shirley Temple.Ephemera pictured include: paper dolls, books, vinyl dolls, games, lobby cards, advertisements, movie posters, hankies etc. Here is a list of featured stars/list of chapters:1- Fred Astaire2- James Cagney3- Bing Crosby4- Dionne quintuplets5- Deanna Durbin6- Clark Gable7- Judy Garland8- Betty Grable9-Rita Hayworth10- Sonja Henie11- Baby Sandy12-Al Jolson13- Jeannette Macdonald14- Charlie McCarthy15- Margaret O'Brien16- Will Rogers17- Shirley Temple18- John Wayne19- Jane WithersAs you can see from the list, it covers stars from the 1930s, and no significant female stars from the 1940s-1960s, but that would require multiple volumes. Nevertheless, it is a terrific overview of a long lost era and has pictures of items most likely lost to time.

This is a sequel to Dian Zillner's 1991 book on the same subject, collecting movie star memorabilia, vintage magazines, posters, photos, dolls, etc. of movie stars. This book, like the first, is not really about collecting movie memorabilia in general but material on specific stars. Zillner opens this book with profiles and photos of memorabilia on arguably the six most collectible stars: Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers, Elizabeth Taylor, and Shirley Temple (Temple dominates the book as pages 69 to 102 are all on her). (Jean Harlow, James Dean, John Wayne, and the Beatles are mentioned in the foreward as highly collectible but they are NOT in this book or profiled.) Then the bulk of the book is on Zillner's apparent speciality, collecting child stars (child stars also dominated the first book with several of the same stars in both books albeit different merchandise). Each of the following has a chapter with photos of memorabilia: Freddie Barholomew, Joan Carroll, Jackie Coogan, Dionne Quints, Judy Garland, Baby Sandy Sandra Henville, Gloria Jean, Carolyn Lee, Roddy McDowell, Baby Peggy Montgomery, Margaret O'Brien, Donald O'Connor, Our Gang, Mickey Rooney, Viginia Weidler, Jane Withers. The memorabilia in this section leans heavily towards dolls, paper dolls, children's books, toys, and products that were marketed to children in the era as opposed to magazines, photos, sheet music, and posters like the grownup stars. Some of the merchandise is quite rare (I had no idea memorabilia on the short careers of Carolyn Lee and Joan Carroll existed). If you collect or have an interest in any of the stars or child actors listed you might want to check this book out. This is not a newly published book but Zillner avoids dollar values for the memorabilia which keeps the book from being dated, it's basically a illustrated book on vintage movie memorabilia. The Schiffer books are quite attractive pictorials of antiques and collectibles.

A very short story which in its own way was a typical variation stripped of everything but the essence of most variations.Part 1 - Mr. Bennet is a miserable creature and must belittle something to fight back at his unfair life - Everything in life is something to make fun of and to laugh at. This is Mr. Bennet’s world view and when he stuck at a table with a stranger he says derogatory things about his favorite daughter’s upcoming marriage, his daughter and her husband to be.Part 2 - Darcy misunderstands and creates a mountain from mole hill - Darcy overhears Mr. Bennet and acts like a doofus . Instead of just ignoring the old fool he escalates the seriousness of the statement, feels he doesn’t want to be to be a future source of sadness to someone he loves and writes a note to Lizzy and gives her a chance to call off the wedding.Part 3 - another misunderstanding - instead of remembering all her inability to understand Darcy, she gets mad and goes into shrew mode. She drags her father over to Netherfield and forces her father to explain and apologize. Then Darcy apologize because everyone must do so when her temper is high. Then she demands another proposal. The HEA is back in place.End of story. Well written and does what a good short story should do. Have a point of view and only tell the story with no extra sauce. It was too much negativity for me but no worse than a variation novel with tons of angst.

Brandy and a discussion on the "merits" of marriage lead to a surprising reconsideration by one fiancé as to his love's attitude about their upcoming lifelong commitment to each other.Mr. Bennet is stuck overnight at an inn with no beds available so he seeks solace in drink and a conversation with a fellow traveler who is willing to discuss some of the joys and trials of the married state. The next day there is a consequence no one can have expected. The title gives the reader a hint as to where this is going. Can two previous proposals be improved upon?

Misery loves company – and so do semi-unhappily married men.Messrs. Bennet and Palmer meet at an inn when both are stranded in their travels. A few brandies help time to pass. The following day, Mr. Bennet arrives home in Meryton to find a house full of chaos and tears and anger. How does anyone know about his conversation at the inn?I chortled all the way through this short story.Drinking makes such fools of people, and people are such fools to begin with, that it's compounding a felony. ~ Robert Benchley

(Spoiler)Mr. Bennett, while in his cups, described what he believed marriage would be like for Elizabeth and Darcy. This caused Darcy to write Elizabeth a letter stating that maybe they should call off the wedding. This was one of the first I've read of this description, and I have read thousands. I thought it was very cute.

I've always admired Mr. Palmer's dry wit in Sense and Sensibility. In this marvelous short story he and Mr. Bennet share bottles of brandy and their dry, witty opinions on life when they are stranded at a crowded inn during a storm. Unfortunately, Mr. Bennet is overheard and must face the repercussions when he arrives back home.

So underappreciated. He needs to go back to his book room and just ignore everything, as he usually does. Darcy, chill out!

A good time filler when you do not want to start a new novel. Rather trite.
