I bought this book on the day I found myself home with a cold. I wasn't sure what to expect. After all, most educational books are rather dreary. Not this one!Being new to the French language and a natural bookworm in my native tongue, I've swung back and forth between books that bore me but are at my current reading level and books I'm dying to read but have too many words I don't comprehend.This book is captivating, engaging and gives me a sense of confidence. At the end of each chapter, I can check my comprehension to be sure I understood. Buy this book, follow Olly's instructions and watch your language skills increase almost magically.

I started learning French 119 days ago according to my progress report on duolingo. Great app by the way. I have bought a number of children's books to practice French with as well, but they are for kids so the stories were a bit corny. I saw this book and figured I would check it out. I've completed 47 sections on duolingo and have started Rosetta stone so my vocabulary is growing, but not huge. This book is awesome. I can understand 80-90% of the stories. I keep google translate opened for when I get stuck, but there are also bolded phrases that are defined at the end of the chapter you can go look at. there is a chapter review en francais at the end and a few multiple choice questions as well. Would I recommend it for learning? That's tough. That is a difficult way to learn. plus you have to have some French vocabulary as a foundation to even begin, but as a tool to practice reading and understanding as well as learning new words and phrases, its awesome. I have finished two of the stories so far. they are engaging enough to keep you interested beyond your desire to study French. If you are doing an app or rosetta stone and want to have something other than repetitive drills and single words or phrases, I highly recommend this book. its boosted my confidence with the language and I have learned a lot about sentence structure from it, like how things are said in the French language beyond a single sentence or phrase. I have a long way to go to be fluent, but they should write more of these and have them for multiple levels.

These stories start out so nicely. But every single story has either a moronic ending or a one-sentence pretty much non-ending!

This summer I made it my goal to learn as much French as possible and this book proved to be an important part of my learning process. It helped me learn new words, review different types of grammar and sentence structures, and most importantly it gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward with my language goals due to it's short and extremely fun chapters. I found all of the stories to be interesting reads and I admit that the vibe of the horror story actually scared me a bit lol. I would definitely recommend this book to any French beginner who is looking for a fun language learning resource to use and I look forward to reading more of these books in the future. :)

If you understand French at about A2 level, this will give you a great boost. On its own, it's not bad, but paired with the audiobook (available via Audible), you have a cheap source of comprehensible input.

I really enjoyed this book and what is more important, it helped me with my French. What the author said was true. Short stories which keep your interest and the questions at the end let you know how much you actually understood. I would recommend it.

Great stories for kids who are learning french or even for an adult who is learningh that language as a second language, it is easy to understand, funny and entertained stories, at a fair price, your kid or inner kid will appreciate it. It is a book for all ages.

I've read my first French book now. I thought the stories were so-so, but short chapters and short stories allows you to attack it a small bit at a time to let the new stuff sink in well.

KIRT C. BUTLER is an Associate Professor in the Department of Finance and Director of Study Abroad for the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, where he teaches multinational finance and global strategy. His research has appeared in a variety of academic and practitioner journals, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Portfolio Management, Journal of International Money and Finance, and the Journal of International Business Studies, among others. Professor Butler's academic research has been profiled in the New York Times, Time, and Money magazines, and on the CNN and CNBC websites. He has a PhD in finance and also holds an MBA in finance from the College of Business, an MS in computer science from the College of Engineering, and a BA in psychology from the Honors College, all from Michigan State University.

I got this book because I needed to review some multinational finance concepts for my job. It wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but it had decent coverage of some topics.

Not sure. Dropped the class. Don't need the book. Stuck with it because I marked the first chapter.

A very thorough and interesting read. Butler is an excellent writer, and the text has very few grammatical and spelling errors. Explanations are clear, sources are typically given for further reference, and examples are almost always provided, and are very thorough as well. This book gives an introductory and then some to almost every area of multinational finance and investing. Be aware, this is not a book on international management practice, it is very much a book about currency conversion, hedging, international portfolios, etc. Although international corporate governance is touched upon, I would recommend something else if you want to learn about that area.Why I gave it four stars: the additional readings. A textbook, especially an introductory one, is supposed to be a gateway to learn more about the topic. It is my pet peeve when authors include dozens of journals to read instead of books. The reason being is that it is mostly students reading these books. Students, if anyone isn't aware, are usually poor. They don't have money to be buying journal after journal. Give us something we can check out at our library, or at least find for a reasonable price at the bookstore. Recommending journals isn't helping anyone. There are some books recommended, but not many.Other than that, I highly recommend professors adopting this textbook for an international finance class!

Great book by a great author. I took Professor Butler's class at Michigan State and continue to use what he taught us in this book and his lectures on a daily basis in the professional world.
