I haven't read it yet, but I know it will be very informative as I had an older one and returned it for this new complete set. I wanted one with the runes and I wanted be the first one to read and handle this book. The book is so worth the extra money, still in the original box and everything there, all looking new. It had not been even opened before. Can't wait to start reading, it just arrived today. I have so much to learn.

The Healing Runes I purchased the cheapest book there was available; reading the review of the book it said "no dust cover available, fair condition" Being as I was paying just a little over a dollar for the book this satisfied me, but thinking back, I would like to know,1. are the pages torn any?2. are they moth eaten or is there any mold?3. is there any water damage to the book?these would be important points to consider. I would also like to "see" a page or two from deep inside the book, not just the covers and a page or two inside, to see if it is what I really want. This book was not exactly what I was looking for but is interesting and informative so I am using it actively.I am happy with my Amazon purchase; it was performed rapidly and well, the book arrived in good time and in good condition. I will be purchasing through Amazon again!

The author made up his own interpretations for the runes, even changing their order, in an apparent attempt to make them palatable to Christians. Completely ahistoric.

We all our fans of the original Rune set from Ralph H. Blum, but we wanted to add this additional set to our collections for our use, and we are not disappointed, but as far as I know, we do tend to grab for our original set for general use whenever Runes comes to mind. We are many of us creatures of habit, so this reaction is not particularly surprizing. Mayhaps, when time goes on, we may grab for both, and give you folks, subsequent commentaries on this additional set at a later date. Blessings.

Love the book almost as much I like the Book of Runes, for different reasons. It is a remarkable work to help with issues that arise.

if you have the actual rune book this is a nice addition especially if you happen to read for clients as i do/have. thats mostly why i bought it. its not the "real" rune book though and shouldnt be confused with the original book and descriptions that come with runes the ones i have used for ages. during this era alot fo ppl were into "healing" via the 12-step programs and i know thats why this book was presented, as i mention, its a nice addition... for a while.

This is such an excellent book to describe the Runes for their Healing ability. I Highly recommend it especially to use it in conjunction with the Original Runes Book. The company that shipped it was excellent. The book was received in fine condition and within a very reasonable time. I also highly recommend them with a 5 star rating.

This set is beautiful more than I expected. Truly happy with the purchase and it arrived way before expected. Thank you.

Really, the book helps me appreciate the value of winning more! These guys fly to Vegas to make a mere $5000 cut from an assumed $40000 win!4. The book proves one more time, good first class gambler requires first class brain too!

I have always been fascinated by people who blackjack for a living and this book is definitely at the top. The plot is basically how two non players begin as novices and progress to proffesionals. It is not an instruction book directly but the card counting, practicing, and special exception rules (think they called in indexes) are part of the story and if you have studied counting you will know what they are talking about. This book left me with an impression of the discipline necessary to become a pro, some of those books where after learning to count cards and almost "magically" win have left me bored. The writing style is easy and it feels like you are right next to the author, so yes , pick it up.

Other than the beginning of the book which was elementary stuff, the rest of book is quite exciting and insightful. This probably the best blackjack memoir that I have read

The words the author attributes to Semyon Dukach in the acknowledgements are true of the author as well. He "creates clarity in the lives of others by articulating the simplicity in seemingly complex situations". The book inspires and educates.

This is a great book. I could not put it down. The author goes into great detail about his preparations and how he approaches the game. Card counting was only a part of it.He shares his ups and downs. Losses and wins. If fact he pretty much discourages going to the Casino and playing BJ unless you know basic strategy perfectly and then can count cards and then have memorized the 300 index plays then play in such a way that you appear amateurish so you don't get barred.

This was a great read. No, you do not learn how to count cards by reading this book. But the reader gets wonderful insights into the world of the advantage player. If you want to learn HOW to count, there are other books that offer that aspect of blackjack. But read this book if you want knowledge about the life of a serious advantage player.

Well written by a bright hardworking guy. Looks like BJ is no magic bullet - basic strategy mastery is just the starting point -- but for the few who do the work (lots of it, explained in generous detail) and can act under pressure, seems you could pretty darn well.

As an aspiring AP it's exciting to read the exploits of a 2 man team.This book won't teach you how to count, but it definitely gives you ways to up your game if you are ready.

When de Waal writes about cooperation, empathy, and social regulation among primates, it's fascinating and easy to see how it relates to discussions of how religion may have emerged and the role it plays for us socially. When he writes about modern atheism, he is sometimes on shakier ground. Although he observes the anger and frustration some prominent atheists have with religion, he seems to chalk it up to bitterness or just random contrariness. He fails to realize that this response is based on the concrete harm atheists attribute to religion. They aren't "sleeping furiously" because they just woke up hating the idea of a god or because they want to strip comfort from people's lives. Their response is based on looking around and seeing the violence, bigotry, and denial of science that religion has actually brought to the world. His attempt to present himself as the "moderate atheist" seems to be rooted in a refusal to fully understand the nature of the objections of theism.

This was a very educational and eye opening book, in which the author offers examples of the practice of morality, empathy, and sympathy in bonobo chimpanzees (and other animals as well) and postulates that having a religious perspective is not necessarily a prerequisite for moral behavior, but that moral practices are part of our evolutionary history as evidenced by our closet living relatives, the primates. The book does not denigrate religion though, offering that it is a good in that if offers those who practice it community, fellowship, and social bonding. There is ample evidence offered in the book though that religious belief is not at all required for morality to be practiced among the "higher primates" (i.e., us!) Really an enlightening and mind expanding book, recommended.

De Waal is a bit too hard on radical atheists (Cut us a break. Our childhood religious indoctrination left permanent psychological scars); that is the only objection I have to this wonderful explanation of the biological roots of human morality. We are not slaves to our biology, but to progress as a global civilization, we have to understand biology's determinative role in our ethical and moral behavior.

Don't let the title fool you. This book is less about the religious perspective then you think. The author claims to be an atheist, but is quite complimentary to religion and farley chastising of modern atheism. In my opinion, his statements about religion and religious practices is the least interesting part of the book. Thankfully he doesn't spend a lot of time on the matter.The fascinating part of this book is the authors personal accounts of his work with primate species, the sanctuaries, zoos and other scientists in similar or other animal behavioral fields. The similarities and differences between the primate social societies and our own are truly amazing. He concentrates mostly on morality, empathy, sympathy, altruism and a few other behaviours that many mistakenly deem as solely human attributes. If you love animals and love to learn about their behaviours. I definitely recommend this.

Frans de Waal goes into great depth in his research to put to rest some very disturbing ideas science has been plagued with for a long time. Animals are automatons, they have no feelings, all their actions are based on instinct, humans are the only being with feelings. Humans are intrinsically nasty, evil, brutish killers that are only barely restrained my the laws and morality civilization has imposed on us. All of these ideas are being proven very, very wrong in field research everyday. De Waal takes the time to show how our inner nature is shared with other mammals, and how we are not what we have been told. He does this in a light hearted and gentle way to not offend, but educate. I recommend this book very highly.

This book underlines the fact that humans are not that different from other animals, not even in forming moral values, showing compassion and altruism, and having empathy. The author unfortunately makes a few unfair jabs at atheism, as if not aware that you can be both atheist AND humanist.

A very thought-provoking book, with a more reasonable slant on the science vs. religion debate than I've heard from other scientists. I think, though, that anyone interested in the debate over the necessity of religion in morality would find a very convincing argument in this book.

Eye-opening and mind-opening. I'm one of the "neo-atheist" he points a finger at and I took his point. There is much much much more to life than "my opinion" vs "their opinion." This is a book that is worth reading. It WILL make you think regardless of your point of view.
