this has really spurred my interest in making ice cream sandwiches for my kids. my kids love this book, too! Chock full of great recipes, easy to make and some take a little longer. This is not a good book, if you are very spontaneous in the kitchen, because cooks must plan ahead. Ice cream takes a day or so to make/chill. I promise the ice cream sandwiches will be devoured very quickly and you won't have to worry about how to store them...
I am in love with this book! I have had this for two weeks now and have made 4 sandwiches...each one just as wonderful as the last! I have tried the peanut butter, sugar cone, carrot cake, and cornmeal cookie sandwiches and each cookie was the best version I have ever had. The texture of the cookies when made into ice cream sandwiches ( and frozen) is perfect! I recommend this book to everyone that loves cookies, ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches!!
I really like this i scream sandwich book, it is filled with creative recipes but not so daring that no one would want to try them. The layout of the book is beautiful. It is nicely designed with some pictures to go along with some of the recipes.The photography is outstanding. All the recipes are egg free. Jennie uses tapioca starch in the place of egg yolks; so you won't have to worry about wasting egg whites. If you don't have an ice cream maker that's okay because Jennie provides instructions on how to make it without an ice cream maker. If you don't like using corn syrup you don't have because Jennie provides an inverted sugar syrup recipe that uses sugar, water and cream of tartar. There are a lot of things I like about this book.
Fantastic book. Every recipe we've made has turned out fantastic. Love the variety and thorough instructions.I will warn, however, that many of these recipes take a lot of time to prepare and are not simply "Throw ice cream between 2 cookies."
The flavor combinations look amazing! I can hardly wait for the ingredients for some of them to come into season!
This is the best book for making special ice cream fun desserts. I've sent the book as presents to friends and to some for a special birthday with an ice cream maker. What is wonderful about the recipes are the options, if you have an ice cream maker and the time you can make your own or there are options of how to make the ice cream using in the store products. I can't even imagine how the author came up with all the recipes. I will continue to purchase more copies for fun hostess gifts all year.

This is a beautiful and well organized book, but most important -- the recipes work! This may seem like a given for any cookbook, but all too often it is not the case. The recipes range from the standard classics to adventurous and unusual combinations featuring all kinds of ice creams/gelatos/sorbets/sherbets and delicious holders from cookies, to bars, to muffin tops, to meringues. An Extra Credit section even provides recipes for swirls, mix-ins, roll-ems and coatings to further augment your frozen confections.The combinations are really interesting and creative. The "from scratch" versions can require a fair amount of work/time since you're really making 2-3 recipes (ice cream, holder and maybe extras). For those days when time is limited, I really appreciate the "Take It Easy" alternative -- store bought or customized ice cream and holder recommendations that allow you to have most of the innovation with minimal work. Finally there's a great chart in the back of the book called "Sandwich It Your Way". Listed in three columns are A) Ice creams, B) Holders, C) Extras. Pick one from each column and make your own personalized sandwich by finding the various recipes scattered throughout the book. I opted for pistachio gelato with chocolate sweetheart cookies rolled in chocolate mini chips - yum!I bought this book when the author came to a local bookstore with mini samples. If you're lucky enough to have her come in person to an event in your town, don't miss it! She inspired a weekend blitz of making and baking. Three of my favorites: Cookie Monster: choco-chip ice cream made with a cookie dough holder, so no baking needed, Berry Pavlova: berry-laced buttermilk ice cream on meringue holders--totally unexpected chewy-crunchy-deliciousness, and Wake-up Call: espresso caramel swirl ice cream on espresso fudge brownies--true mocha madness! The book is worth it for these recipes alone. Buy it and fill up your freezer with a bounty of frozen treats!!
