First off, the book is entitled “The Tiny Truths,†but the real BIG truth that it illuminates and depicts is what the people in the Bible likely looked like. The stories of the Bible are broken down in easy to understand language for young readers. I would say that the reading level is likely high level 2nd grade/3rd grade and up. I have been reading the stories out loud to my small children.I was expecting it to be a full illustrated Bible. That it is not. It is selected stories of the Bible. Either way, I would recommend the book to anyone with small kids.
The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible is a Zonderkidz (Zondervan's children's branch) storybook created by Joanna Rivard and Tim Penner. All scripture quotations in this are from the New Living Translation (NLT). The NLT is my personal favorite whenever it comes to children. This book is chronological, for the most part, and it is more paraphrased than word for word stories. The first half has creation, Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, Saul, David, Solomon, Daniel, and Jonah. The second half has Jesus' birth, John the Baptist, Jesus' ministry, some parables, the crucifixion (which is briefly mentioned), resurrection, Pentecost, and Paul. The illustrations are adorable (after I realized the eyes do in fact have tiny black pupils and aren't just scary white circles), and some are really funny (like Joseph wearing black and white striped clothing when he was a prisoner). I'm really sad Esther and Ruth weren't featured, along with Job and some of the OT prophets! I also would have loved to see Lazarus, and some of the events in the epistles.I'm a little annoyed sin wasn't mentioned, and the part about the Nile turning into blood said, "First, God made the water in the river impossible to drink and all the fish in it died." It was just little things here and there that weren't 100% accurate. So this was more like Tiny (Partial) Truths.Regardless, this is a cute book and it's great for children of all ages. *I received a free copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
Ages 4 and up. (One image of beat-up character that some might find disturbing.)This was such a fun, cute Bible for kids! I really enjoyed reading it. It was basically just a summary of the bible's main events put in a storybook format (with no chapters or verses). The authors did a great job tying the biblical stories together and helping you see the big picture. The Tiny Truths Illustrated Bible is actually a good tool not only for kids, but also for adults who want an overview of the Bible. This book was quite accurate to the original Bible stories - probably one of the most accurate children's bibles I have ever read. That being said, it did have a few sentences I didn't think were the best interpretation, and the last couple pages had some questionable teachings. But, I think these small inaccuracies can be easily explained to the child by the parents if their beliefs are different.I loved all the details the pictures in this Bible held. There were funny scenes, lots of animals, and even "easter eggs" to other parts of the Bible. I found the illustrations for the people kind of cute, but also kind of scary... probably could've used eyelids.Putting this illustrated book together must have been so much work! I can't imagine how hard it would be to choose which stories to include and how many details to put in them. They explained all the stories well without adding any of the gross details that many parents wouldn't want to read to their small children.Reading this Bible was tons of fun, and I think your kids would enjoy it, too. Be prepared to explain some things and have a good time looking at the pictures!~I was sent a free copy of this Bible from HarperCollins for an honest review~
The Tiny Truths Bible by Joanna Rivard and Tim Penner is an adorable resource for any parent who wants to start Bible time with their littles. First of all, the illustrations are the cutest! I personally appreciated the fact that the characters are darker skinned. Not only does this open kids minds up to diversity, it also entertains the idea of something other than a totally white Jesus. It's unique and I haven't seen any kids Bibles like that!
I think this Bible displays the Gospel in a way that little people can easily understand. My favorite passage is found at the end of this Bible. It says, "God wants to fix the broken things in the world, and we get to help. Jesus shows us how. We need to..Love God with our whole heart, Love everyone the way God loves us. Love our enemies and do good to those who hurt us. "This Bible goes through stories in both the Old and New Testament. Your child will learn about the disciples, Noah, Joseph and more. All in all, this is a great resource. My boys are having so much fun with this Bible!*I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
